Resolving Inconsistent Trends for Intrusion Contact Surfaces

 

When upgrading intrusional contact surfaces created in Leapfrog Geo 1.2, Hydro 1.8, or Geothermal 2.4, errors may occur due to inconsistencies in the trend. To successfully upgrade projects to Geo 3.0, Hydro 2.5 or Geothermal 2.9, these surfaces must first be fixed in an earlier version. Use:

  • Geo 2.0, 2.1 or 2.2

  • Hydro 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4

  • Geothermal 2.6, 2.7 or 2.8

 

The steps required to fix the surface are:

  • Note what surfaces need to be fixed

  • Open the project in one of the earlier Leapfrog versions noted above

  • Create a surface with which to compare the fixed surface after upgrade

  • Record the surface’s current trend values

  • Adjust the surface to rerun it

  • Reapply the previous trend values and apply changes

  • Compare the extracted mesh with the fixed contact surface

These steps are described in detail below.

It is a good idea to save a copy of the project before taking these steps.

 

Step 1: Determine What Surfaces Need to be Fixed

If a project cannot be upgraded due to trend inconsistencies, the error message will list the affected surfaces:

Make a note of these surfaces.

 

Step 2: Open the Project in an Earlier Version of Leapfrog

Open the project in an earlier version of Leapfrog and follow the below described steps for each of these surfaces. Use:

  • Geo 2.0, 2.1 or 2.2

  • Hydro 2.2, 2.3 or 2.4

  • Geothermal 2.6, 2.7 or 2.8

Step 3: Create a Surface for Later Reference

Extract the mesh parts from the contact surface so you have a copy of the original surface for later reference. To do this, right-click on the contact surface in the project tree and select Extract Mesh Parts:

If you have several surfaces to repair within a single geological model, you could also make a static copy of the geological model.

 

Step 4: Record the Current Trend Values and Rerun the Surface

To record the current trend values, right-click on the surface in the project tree and select Adjust Surface. Write down the trend values shown in this window:

Before closing the window, change any one value so that the surface reruns:

Click OK to apply the changes.

 

Step 5: Reapply the Previous Trend

The next step is to restore the original trend.

Right-click on the surface in the project tree and select Adjust Surface. Change the values back to the original values and click OK to apply the changes.

Step 6: Compare the Fixed Surface with the Extracted Mesh Parts

Once the processing is finished, the surface can be compared with the earlier extracted mesh parts (Step 3) and adjusted further if required.

The fixed surface can now be upgraded in Leapfrog Geo 3.0, Hydro 2.5 or Geothermal 2.9.
